His death is recorded in a Memorial Inscriptions publication by ANESFHS.
The online index to this MI pub'n shows the date as 5 Sep 1789.
Subsequent finding of an OPR, mort cloth purchased 12 Sep 1790.
I am tempted to believe the OPR and he was probably buried a week after death, so his death should be 5 Sep 1790. ( Mind you, the OPR was typed!!?)

Also, the grave is recorded in Pre-1855 Monumental Inscriptions in Kincardineshire, same information, page 275, no 93, stone is tipped up and no information about when erected; could have been many years after the burials and easy to make a mistake of 1 year.
